Volunteers needed

Next season of Aquatic Warblers counts is approaching and we are starting to look for volunteers, who could help us count the species. As each year we will count singing males of the species in the most important sites: Biebrza National Park and Chelm Calcareous Marshes, but this time we are going to look for the birds also in places that have been abandoned for a while, to check whether the birds came back there. Field works in the Biebrza reserves – the summary of the season 2011/2012

March is a period when all our field work comes to an end. The temperature is rising and the bird migration to the breeding grounds is on its way. Final Press conference of the Project

On Thursday, 24th of November, the final Press conference of the project took place in Polish Ministry of Environment. During the conference OTOP could present all the results and successes of the project and to summarize further needs of Aquatic Warbler conservation in Poland. Read more

First results of Aquatic Warbler productivity study

In order to assess the impact of the project and its actions on the target species – Aquatic Warbler – this year we maintain an Aquatic Warbler productivity study in Biebrza National Park. This study was meant to check how mowing affects Aquatic Warbler population. Read more

New aquatic warbler site found in Poland - IBA Lower Wieprz River Valley

New aquatic warbler site was discovered in the Lower Wieprz River Valley IBA, in the big meadows area between Skladow and Jeziorzany villages in the Lublin region. Four singing males were spotted on May 17 by Jaroslaw Krogulec Read more

LIFE + project has started!

On 01.09.2010 a new LIFE+ Nature and Biodiversity Project has started, which aims to protect Aquatic Warblers in Poland. Its full title sounds: “Facilitating Aquatic Warbler (Acrocephalus paludicola) habitat management through sustainable systems of biomass use”. Read more

Governments of Aquatic Warbler range states congratulate on conservation success at Biebrza

Government representatives of 12 countries comprising the migratory range of the Aquatic Warbler (Acrocephalus paludicola), have passed a formal resolution congratulating the Polish Society for the Protection of Birds (OTOP) and the Biebrza National Park for the outstanding nature conservation success they have been able to deliver at the Biebrza Marshes through the implementation of a large project targeting the conservation of the Aquatic Warbler, Poland’s biggest ornithological gem. They had gathered with almost 90 Polish and international conservationists and scientists at a conference 11–15 May 2010 at Biebrza National Park. The conference aimed to explain and present the work and achievements of the project, that is largely funded by the EU LIFE Programme. Read more
